Writtle Garden and Allotment Society’s main object is to organise two shows each year, the summer one is at the beginning of July and the autumn show at the beginning of September. Each show has classes for vegetables, fruits, cut flowers, pot plants, flower arrangements, jams, baking, handicrafts, photography and children’s classes.
Something for everyone!
The society also organises visits to gardens both locally and further afield and talks in the evenings.
There is a hut at the Victoria Road allotments which is open on Sunday mornings from 10:00 to 12:00 where members can buy pots, fertilisers, canes etc. and each winter they can order seed at very competitive prices.
The cost of membership is modest and we would urge villagers to join to help fund the shows which always are expensive to run and we set the entrance fee a modest level in order not to put off any visitors. It is not necessary to belong to the society in order to enter the shows.
